About the role
Construction Manager Rail Transit
Urban Engineers is seeking a Construction Manager to perform on-site construction management services for major rail and transit projects in New Brunswick, New Jersey. The ideal candidate will manage day-to-day operations, ensuring quality, budget adherence, and timely completion of projects.
Responsibilities
- Perform day to day management of construction contractors, inspection, and office engineering staff.
- Manage overall contractor performance to ensure a quality product, maintain budget, and meet deadlines.
- Ensure all work conforms to project plans and specifications.
- Supervise arrangements and scheduling, coordinate meetings, review change orders and payments.
- Address disputes related to construction contracts.
- Manage office engineering functions, including correspondence, submittals, logs, and change orders.
- Provide quality control and assurance services in a lead field role.
- Supervise field inspection staff to document contractor progress and compliance.
- Maintain liaison with new and prospective client managers.
- Involve in project administration, accounting, and invoicing with the home office and client.
- Maintain staff certifications to satisfy client needs.
- Work with client Project Executives and Project Managers in project management.
- Attend and supervise meetings with management, designers, contractors, and stakeholders.
- Assist in hiring and training staff to support project needs.
- Submit reviews, engineering calculations, spreadsheets, and project document controls.
- Provide support to the General Manager to achieve project goals.
- Ensure quality product and maintain designated budgets while meeting deadlines.
- Represent the firm in technical/professional societies.
- May participate in marketing functions.
- Work with other Rail & Transit managers to share and obtain work.
- Ensure compliance with ISO 9001:2000 Quality System requirements.
- Stay updated on developments affecting service delivery and recommend changes.
- Develop and implement personnel development objectives and identify training requirements.
- Participate in non-corporate community organizations for social improvement.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering is required.
- A minimum of 10 years of experience in construction management, inspection, and engineering, preferably on complex rail and transit infrastructure projects.
- Overall experience in providing engineering services – 20 years.
- Must possess leadership qualities and be capable of supervising construction inspection and office engineering staff.
- Professional Registration as an Engineer is preferred.
- Ability to pass OSHA 30 is necessary.
- Rigorous background checks are required for air side property access.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office software.
