The Syracuse VA Medical Center includes the main facility, VA Community Based Outpatient Clinics in Binghamton and Rome, and six contract clinics in Auburn, Cortland, Ithaca, Massena, Oswego, and Watertown.Qualifications

Tasks include standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, climbing, and working in uncomfortable positions. Electricians frequently lift and carry tools and equipment weighing up to 20 pounds (9 kg) and occasionally up to 40 pounds (18 kg). Assistance may be required for lifting objects over 40 pounds. **Working Conditions:** Work is performed both indoors and outdoors, sometimes in adverse weather conditions. Work areas can be noisy, dirty, dusty, and greasy. Tasks may be performed on scaffolding or cranes at heights up to 30 feet (9 meters) or in confined spaces like manholes or attics. * Relay instructions from the Supervisor to other Electricians. * Work alongside other Electricians, setting the pace and ensuring plans, blueprints, materials, and tools are available. Obtain necessary stock from supply locations. * Acquire needed information or decisions from the Supervisor to resolve on-the-job issues. * Maintain current knowledge and answer questions from other Electricians regarding procedures, policies, technical orders, and training requirements. * Adjust workloads to ensure continuous productivity for the work crew. * Monitor work in progress and upon completion to ensure adherence to Supervisor's instructions on sequences, procedures, methods, and deadlines. * Advise and encourage other Electricians to follow instructions and meet deadlines. * Ensure compliance with safety and housekeeping rules, including machine operation limits and proper tool usage and storage. * Schedule and coordinate with contractors for assigned projects. * Respond to Supervisor inquiries regarding overall work operations and issues, including employee training needs. * Lead a team of seven WG-10 Electricians. * Perform installation, modification, and repair of electrical power circuits. * Troubleshoot, repair, and test electrical power equipment, circuits, and controls, with voltages ranging from 13-200 Volts AC to 12 Volts DC. * Utilize skills with distribution panels, switchgear, control circuitry, and fire alarm systems. * Install various electrical components including light fixtures, switches, outlets, fans, nurse call systems, motor controls, and fire alarm systems. * Install conduit and boxes for telephone installations. * Install and service distribution panels and circuit breakers. * Check generators and transfer switches for proper operation. * Create 237's for service or new parts as needed. * Work within the Electrical Shop Section. * Collaborate with other tradespeople on in-house projects. * Perform demolition, wall repairs, removal of obsolete lines (electrical and plumbing), and assist other trades to project completion. * Make routine trips to Rome CBOC for repairs, inspections, and maintenance. * Repair, maintain, and operate utility systems including electrical distribution, fire alarm, HVAC, emergency power, and telephone systems. * Execute complex and major repairs on large utility systems with special requirements. * Troubleshoot unusual malfunctions in advanced equipment using various testing techniques. * Conduct visual, audible, and mechanical checks for temperature, component operation, oil levels, bearing conditions, connections, insulation, belts, gaskets, and pulleys. * Be available for emergency calls related to fire, flood, weather, and utility breakdowns.
