About The Position

As an Electrician 1 with the Department of Human Services, you will help keep a large and active hospital running safely and efficiently. This position gives you the chance to work with a wide range of electrical systems while supporting the needs of patients and staff. Description of Work

This position supports the daily operations of Norristown State Hospital by maintaining and repairing essential electrical systems and equipment. As a Electrician 1, you will perform the following duties:
  • **Laundry Equipment Work:** Maintain and repair washers, dryers, motors, wiring, and other components to ensure laundry operations run safely and reliably.
  • **Fire Alarm Maintenance:** Inspect and service fire alarm poles, cables, transmitters, relays, and contacts while testing the system for proper function.
  • **Electrical System Upkeep:** Replace bulbs, ballasts, switches, receptacles, fuses, wiring, and other electrical parts throughout the facility.
  • **Truck Repair:** Service battery-powered trucks by repairing steering parts, drive components, wiring, bearings, tires, and related equipment.
  • **High Tension Work:** Maintain high tension power lines, transformers, insulators, lightning arrestors, and switching equipment as needed.
  • **Asbestos Safety Tasks:** Perform electrical work involving asbestos removal or encapsulation while following required training and safety protocols.

Work Schedule and Additional Information

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Travel and overtime as needed.
  • Free parking!
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.

Qualifications

Required Experience, Training & Eligibility
  • Minimum Experience and Training Requirements: Successful completion of the Electrician Trainee program (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or Four years of experience installing, repairing, and maintaining electrical systems, components, and equipment; or An equivalent combination of experience and training.
Special Requirements
  • This position requires possession of a valid license as a journey-level electrician issued by the local Pennsylvania jurisdiction.
  • This position requires possession of an active motor vehicle license.
