Associate Technology Editor, Lifehacker

Lifehacker is seeking an Associate Technology Editor to join our team. This role requires 3 years of experience and involves supporting the senior tech editor, editing tech coverage with actionable advice on AI, home automation, VPNs, online privacy, and security across various platforms. The ideal candidate is passionate about tech, skilled at explaining complex topics clearly, and possesses sound judgment with a healthy skepticism.

Key Responsibilities:

• Support the senior tech editor in setting strategic editorial policy for the tech beat.
• Edit tech stories, pitch tech news, and assist with product reviews.
• Ensure content meets high editorial standards and positions Lifehacker as authoritative.
• Maintain Lifehacker's editorial voice, emphasizing a conversational style and skepticism of conventional wisdom.
• Guide daily production across distribution channels.
• Track and meet audience growth targets for reach, loyalty, and engagement.
• Leverage audience insights and analytics for content pitches, plans, and strategy.

Job Qualifications:

• Minimum of 3 years of experience writing about consumer tech, AI, home automation, VPNs, online privacy, and security across Windows, macOS, iPhone, Android, and third-party apps.
• Ability to quickly produce news stories and longer features.
• Comfortable asserting opinions and substantiating advice.
• Experience managing staff and freelancers to meet deadlines and standards.
• Ability to collaborate across teams to achieve business goals.
• Proficiency in working across various mediums, including video and podcasts.
• Skill in using audience listening and analytics for informed content pitches.
• Passion for technology and helping others, with the ability to explain complex topics clearly.
• Possess shrewd judgment and a healthy skepticism of common advice.

Compensation Range:

This is a union position covered by the NewsGuild of New York. The contractual minimum salary for this position is $78,000.
