Structural Steel Estimator at York Hamilton Corporate Partners
We are seeking a highly skilled and technically driven Structural Steel Estimator to support our tendering and pre-construction operations. This is a mid-level, full-time remote role suited to a detail-oriented professional with strong drafting and structural modelling expertise, capable of translating complex designs into accurate, competitive pricing strategies.
Working across large-scale structural steel packages, you will play a key role in securing major works through precise modelling, to produce a detailed Bill of Quantities (BoQ) for the pricing of structural steel fabrication.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop detailed 3D structural steel models to generate accurate quantity take-offs and cost plans.
- Prepare construction methodologies, sequencing strategies, and erection plans directly from model data to support competitive tender submissions.
- Interpret architectural, structural, and engineering documentation to inform modelling and estimating outputs.
- Collaborate closely with engineering, drafting, procurement, and commercial teams to ensure alignment across all deliverables.
- Identify value engineering opportunities and contribute to risk assessments throughout the tender phase.
- Support international procurement strategies, including offshore fabrication and logistics considerations where applicable.
Qualifications
To succeed as a Structural Steel Estimator, strong drafting and structural modelling expertise is required, alongside the ability to translate complex designs into accurate, competitive pricing strategies. You should be proficient in developing detailed 3D structural steel models for quantity take-offs and cost plans, and experienced in preparing construction methodologies, sequencing, and erection plans. Interpreting architectural, structural, and engineering documentation is crucial, as is a collaborative approach to working with engineering, drafting, procurement, and commercial teams. The role also requires the capability to identify value engineering opportunities, contribute to risk assessments, and understand international procurement, offshore fabrication, and logistics.
Preferred Attributes
- Experience working with structural steel estimating for commercial or industrial projects.
- Familiarity with local building codes, standards, and industry practices.
- Experience working with offshore or remote teams is a plus.
- Understanding of supply chain and procurement for steel and related materials.
