Role Overview

As a Data Engineering Manager, you will transform raw data into trusted scalable systems. Your role involves guiding a growing team, designing scalable pipelines, and partnering with cross-functional teams such as engineers, analysts, data scientists, and business leaders.

Key Responsibilities

• Mentor and guide the team through hands-on engineering work, architecture design, code reviews, and incident resolution.
• Develop and maintain well-governed, trusted data products following a 'data as a product' philosophy.
• Lead the design, development, and scaling of modern data pipelines and models for analytics and operational use cases.
• Define and enforce best practices for data modeling, pipeline architecture, testing, and documentation.
• Manage SLAs for production data systems ensuring quality, reliability, and incident response readiness.
• Design processes for data lineage, observability, and compliance in collaboration with key stakeholders.
• Collaborate with engineering, product analytics, and business teams to gather requirements and deliver integrated solutions.
• Enhance the internal developer experience through tooling, automation, and robust documentation.
• Foster a diverse, inclusive, and fun culture consistent with Yelp’s values.

Qualifications

• Experience in data engineering or backend development with strong data modeling skills.
• Proven leadership and mentorship ability in data engineering teams.
• Advanced proficiency in SQL, Python, and tools like dbt, Airflow, Snowflake, and similar technologies.
• Strong background in cloud-native solutions (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and workflow orchestration tools.
• Familiarity with batch and real-time processing frameworks is a plus.
• A Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience.

Compensation and Benefits

Compensation ranges from $182,000 to $312,000 annually, with additional bonus, RSUs, and benefits. This opportunity is fully remote across the US.
