Our state-of-the-art facility at 55 Lock Street, is where our members receive most of their care from our 150+ providers. It is a 144,000 square foot medical facility with over 90 exam rooms, an Acute Care Department, a 15-bed inpatient facility with two negative pressure rooms, a diagnostic imaging suite including MR and CT scan, x-ray and ultrasound and a full-service retail pharmacy.
Pharmacist Role Overview
Reporting to the Director of the Yale Health Pharmacy, the Pharmacist is responsible for all aspects of pharmacy operations within the department, providing a high level of care and service to Yale Health patients.
Key Responsibilities
- Preparation and dispensing of medications.
- Coaching and managing pharmacy staff.
- Ensuring efficient workflow and inventory maintenance.
- Performing clinical screening, including dosage verification and drug interaction checks.
- Consulting with clinicians on medication issues and counseling patients on correct usage.
- Providing accurate drug information to healthcare personnel.
- Monitoring and maintaining records on drug utilization, quality, and quantity.
- Stocking emergency carts, Acute Care cabinets, and other clinical areas with proper medication.
- Participating in healthcare fairs, member programs, and various pharmacy-related committees.
- Engaging in disease management programs and providing operational oversight to technician staff.
- Operating a cash register when necessary and maintaining perpetual CII inventory.
Schedule
This is a full-time, 40 hours/week position with a rotating schedule. Pharmacy hours of operation are Monday - Friday from 8 am – 6 pm, and Saturdays from 8 am – 3 pm. The role includes weekend, holiday, and recess period rotations.
Required Skills and Abilities
- Thorough knowledge of state and federal regulations regarding pharmaceutical products, principles, and error reporting protocols.
- Excellent oral and written communication, organizational, computer, and analytical skills.
- Exceptional patient counseling abilities.
- Demonstrated adaptability and flexibility to handle shifting operational priorities.
- Proven ability to collaborate effectively as part of a supportive pharmacy team.
- Excellent attendance, punctuality, and reliability.
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
Preferred Skills and Abilities
- Demonstrated experience with disease management programs.
- Experience with mail order systems.
Principal Responsibilities
- Compounds and dispenses medications in accordance with laws and regulations.
- Determines identity, purity, and strength of drugs.
- Verifies and consults with physicians on dosage and generic medication viability.
- Reviews all medication orders for in-patients and ambulatory patients.
- Advises patients on correct drug usage and potential interactions.
- Ensures adherence to policies, procedures, and legal/regulatory compliance (Board of Pharmacy, HIPAA, DEA, USP). Supports accreditation efforts.
- Provides accurate drug information to healthcare professionals.
- Monitors and maintains comprehensive drug records.
- Ensures continuity of supply, service, and information for drugs and products.
- May perform other assigned duties.
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacology and three years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Required License(s) or Certification(s)
State of Connecticut Pharmacist license or Connecticut License eligible.
Physical Requirements
Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
