Job Description

About Yahoo Mail and the Opportunity

Yahoo Mail is the ultimate consumer inbox, serving hundreds of millions of users. It offers the best way to access your email and stay organized across computers, phones, and tablets. With its beautiful design and lightning-fast speed, Yahoo Mail simplifies reading, organizing, and sending emails.

With 200M monthly users on Yahoo Mail and 900M monthly users across Yahoo, we are in the midst of a renaissance. This is backed by long-term investment, modernized technology stacks, and a clear mandate to build bold, user-centric experiences. We are on offense, with leadership support to take significant strides that will shape how people manage their daily lives.

Over the past year, the User Growth Team has successfully demonstrated that delight and habit formation can drive real behavioral change at scale. From multi-week challenges and streak systems to enhanced notification strategies and micro-delight UX, we have launched programs that have meaningfully improved Daily Active Users (DAU). Our experimentation velocity continues to accelerate, with insights from each success becoming reusable lifecycle components adopted across various platforms.

If you seek consumer scale, the freedom to build 0-to-1 habit systems, and the opportunity to define how hundreds of millions of people engage with their inbox every day, this is your moment. Come help write the next chapter of one of the biggest consumer product success stories in history.

Position Overview: Senior Product Manager User Growth

Our Growth team's mission is clear: help millions build a lasting habit with our product and realize value every day. We are seeking a Senior Product Manager User Growth who combines sharp, source-driven product sense with A+ execution discipline. You will own high-leverage surfaces across onboarding, engagement loops, lifecycle nudges, notifications, and habit systems, all with an obsession for experiment velocity and measurable DAU impact.

You will work closely with a dedicated cross-functional squad, including engineers, designers, and data scientists, who are deeply invested in experimentation rigor and user insights. You will also collaborate extensively with user research, content, marketing, and platform teams to unlock distribution, instrumentation, and lifecycle opportunities. This is a highly visible role with strong executive support, where your partners will expect crisp problem framing, clear hypotheses, and a fast pace of learning.

What You’ll Do

  • Own outcomes: Define and drive initiatives that grow DAU through improvements in activation, habit formation (DV7/DV30), and frequency.
  • Practice source-driven product sense: Triangulate problems and opportunities from multiple explicit sources such as quantitative data (funnels, N-day retention, sequencing, event pathing, frequency distribution), qualitative insights (UXR, diary studies, support tickets, App/Play reviews), market/competitive teardowns, adjacent-product patterns, exploratory instrumentation, and baseline data scrapes.
  • Tell stories with data: Communicate crisp narratives that connect user problems, experiment design, observed outcomes, and roadmap decisions.
  • Be world-class at execution velocity: Increase throughput of high-quality experiments, reduce 'time to learning', minimize inconclusive tests, and scale wins through playbooks and reusable components.
  • Design habit loops: Collaborate with Design on surfaces that reduce perceived effort, increase felt competence, and create repeatable micro-delight moments.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in business, marketing, computer science, or a related field.
  • 6+ years of Product Management experience in consumer products, with at least 3 years specifically in Growth (activation, retention, notifications, engagement surfaces).
  • Strong understanding of user acquisition, engagement, and retention strategies.
  • Data-driven mindset with expertise in analytics and A/B testing.
  • Exceptional written communication for concise briefs, experiment plans, and async decisions.
  • Track record of shipping (not just proposing) experiments and features that positively impacted activation, retention, or DAU.
  • Experience in email or messaging platforms is a plus.

Nice-to-Haves

  • Hands-on experience with analytics tools such as Looker, Amplitude, Mode, and BigQuery.
  • Familiarity with habit-forming systems, including streak mechanics, achievements, and challenges.
  • Ability to wireframe quickly to unblock velocity.
