A Little About the Team

The Central Data Platform team builds next generation cloud platforms, services, and tools that underpin Yahoo's products. They maintain systems at scale to process petabytes of data and billions of events daily using both open source software and internal tools spanning multiple cloud providers. The team supports data collection, stream processing, batch-processing, data querying, governance, and lineage, while promoting developer self-sufficiency and DevOps ownership.

A Lot About You

You will join our team in Champaign, Illinois, developing scalable, high-speed data solutions for data collection and low-latency platforms. Your responsibilities include analyzing requirements, designing and implementing software solutions, testing and debugging, and supporting globally deployed systems in production.

Your Day-to-Day

• Collaborate with colleagues to understand new feature requirements.
• Develop design documents and implement software solutions.
• Test, debug, and refactor code to enhance system performance.
• Work with cross-functional teams to align technical roadmaps.
• Lead cloud infrastructure initiatives and improve system resilience.

What You Must Have

• Solid understanding of computer science fundamentals and data structures.
• Proficiency in object-oriented programming (Java, C++, Python, Perl) and Unix/Linux systems.
• Expertise in software design, debugging, and testing.
• Experience with large-scale distributed systems and data operations.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Team-oriented mindset in an agile development environment.
• A passion for building great products and impacting the world.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in AWS EKS, AWS Open Search, or GCP GKE and observability tools.
• Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Ansible).
• Experience with Kubernetes and container orchestration.
