About the Role

Join a team of scientists and engineers working at the cutting edge of novel materials science at the intersection of AI and materials discovery at X, The Moonshot Factory. This fixed term 1-year role, with potential to convert to full time, involves interfacing with a cross-functional team of Chemists, Physicists, Biologists, Engineers, and Designers to create high value solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Drive innovation in materials synthesis, characterization, and testing.
  • Collaborate with AI/ML scientists to materialize designs addressing high impact problems.
  • Plan and execute complex, novel experimental programs.
  • Design, build and operate novel materials synthesis equipment.

Requirements

  • PhD in Materials Science, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years of industry experience with solid state synthesis and metallurgy.
  • Expertise in various materials synthesis techniques (solid state, solgels, thin film deposition, electrochemistry).
  • Experience with advanced high-pressure apparatus and hands-on experimentation.
  • Strong analytical skills with proficiency on instruments like XRD, XRF, SEM, and others.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Startup experience.
  • 10+ years innovating in materials science.
  • Exposure to microfab lab environments.
  • Programming proficiency in Python and LabVIEW.
  • Experience with laboratory automation.
