Overview

WSP is seeking a Junior Transmission Line Design Engineer to join our Power & Energy team. The role involves contributing to transmission line projects at the client office, primarily in Rochester, NY, with additional opportunities in Atlanta, GA, Boston, MA, Charlotte, NC, New York, NY, Orlando, FL, Binghamton, NY and Augusta, ME.

Your Impact

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Conductor selection and structure recommendations
  • Conducting insulation, A/C interference, static wire, and grounding studies
  • Developing line design plans, profiles, and cross section details
  • Analyzing LiDAR and aerial photo data
  • Incorporating wetlands, vernal pool, and sensitive resource data into designs
  • Detailed estimation and probability modeling
  • Assisting in leading overall transmission line design for capital projects
  • Reviewing and designing plan and profile drawings using PLSCADD
  • Coordinating project interfaces with other engineering disciplines

Technical Responsibilities

The role involves technical tasks including:

  • Developing technical specifications, QA/QC procedures, and templates
  • Reviewing construction design documents and geotechnical reports
  • Using foundation design software (L-PILE, MFAD) and Finite Element modeling

Professional Requirements

Qualifications include a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field and 1-3 years of experience in Transmission Line Design with voltages up to 115 kV HVAC. Familiarity with industry standards and technical software like PLS-CADD, POLE, TOWER, AutoCAD, and MicroStation is essential.
