Entry Level Civil Engineer (Renewables)
WSP is looking for an Entry Level Civil Engineer to join our Site Development Civil Team - Renewable Energy in Cincinnati, OH. This role will support Power & Energy projects, with consideration for positions in Cleveland, OH, Columbus, OH, Indianapolis, IN, Houston, TX, Dallas, TX, Austin, TX, and Las Vegas, NV.

Your Impact
- Support the development of renewable energy sites, focusing on Solar, Wind, and BESS facilities, as well as behind-the-meter generation for commercial and industrial clients.
- Collect, compile, and analyze data from various sources including physical work sites, surveys, blueprints, GIS data, subsurface utility information, maps, hydrologic analysis, and geotechnical data for project development, design, and construction.
- Conduct research and inspections of proposed and existing site conditions, resources, buildings, infrastructure, and transportation channels to ensure compliance with applicable rules, standards, and permits.
- Assist in the development of site and permitting plans for energy sector projects, including electrical transmission, solar, and onshore wind.
- Support the development of civil, erosion and sediment control, drainage/stormwater, and utility designs.
- Assist in preparing permit application documents, engineering design plans, specifications, reports, and cost estimates.
- This role involves local field visits and potentially some overnight travel.
- Coordinate with clients and governmental agencies to meet project needs and secure necessary permits.
- Support the development and scoping of medium-sized projects.
- Provide guidance and training to entry-level engineers.
- Professionally interact with regulatory agencies, subcontractors, and clients.
- Stay current with the latest civil engineering techniques and practices.
- Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making, adhering to WSP’s Code of Conduct.
- Perform additional responsibilities as needed.
Who You Are
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering or a related field.
- 1+ years of relevant post-education experience in renewable energy engineering and prior civil design experience.
- Strong leadership, interpersonal, teamwork, and communication skills (written and verbal).
- Proficiency in AutoCAD is required.
- Working knowledge of site grading, stormwater, and erosion and sedimentation controls is required.
- Understanding of stormwater permitting (NPDES); multi-state knowledge is a plus.
- Working knowledge of relevant civil construction laws, codes, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping.
- Ability to perform technical computations and calculations, understand plans/specifications, and compare them to regulations.
- Effective interpersonal and communication skills for interacting with diverse audiences.
- Capable self-leadership with attention to detail, multitasking, and prioritization in a dynamic environment.
- Developed critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to direct field tasks safely and efficiently.
- Potential for some travel and fieldwork, possibly in rugged terrain.
- Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and adhering to WSP policies.
Preferred Qualifications
- Engineer in Training (EIT) Certification.
- Project management experience with small to mid-level projects.
- Past experience on site development projects, renewable energy projects, and client-facing roles.
- Master’s Degree in Engineering.
- Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in Texas, Ohio, or Illinois; NCEES record is a plus.
- Strong knowledge of AutoCAD Civil 3D Software Suite, including grading and earthwork concepts.
- Task management experience.

Compensation
Expected Salary: $83,200 - $95,000 annually for all locations.
WSP USA provides this range based on education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities, internal equity, and geographic location. The actual pay may vary.
