Job Description

Senior SCADA Engineer

WSP is seeking a Senior SCADA Engineer to join our Electrical Engineering discipline and ERI Sector. This role is crucial for shaping the reliability, safety, and future-readiness of critical infrastructure systems across Canada. You will provide senior-level technical leadership in the design, integration, testing, and modernization of SCADA, automation, and control systems for industrial, energy, and utility operations.

Your Impact

  • Lead the design, configuration, and implementation of SCADA, automation, and industrial control systems in electrical substations.
  • Develop system architecture, communication networks, HMI standards, and integration strategies for complex electrical systems.
  • Oversee and perform commissioning, factory acceptance testing (FAT), and site acceptance testing (SAT).
  • Provide expert guidance on cybersecurity for operational technology environments.
  • Deliver technical leadership to multidisciplinary engineering teams and mentor junior engineers.
  • Collaborate with clients, utilities, and partners to deliver future-ready solutions.
  • Troubleshoot system performance issues and support root-cause analysis.
  • Prepare engineering reports, technical specifications, and design packages.

The Skills That Set You Apart

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering with P.Eng. eligibility/registration in Canada or a Diploma in Instrumentation Engineering Technology.
  • 10+ years of experience in SCADA, automation, industrial control systems, or electrical system integration.
  • Expertise with RTU (e.g., RTAC, Ignition) and HMI platforms (e.g., SEL, Ignition).
  • Familiarity with electrical devices such as power meters and relays.
  • Strong understanding of communication protocols including DNP3, Modbus, IEC 61850, OPC UA.
  • Experience in energy, utilities, industrial, or infrastructure environments, ideally renewable energy (wind, solar, BESS).
  • Knowledge of OT cybersecurity principles and standards (NERC CIP).
  • Ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and coordinate stakeholders.
