Innovate and Lead: Senior Rail Modelling and Simulation Specialist
With WSP in Canada, you have the opportunity to redefine what’s possible. We are seeking an ambitious, passionate, and innovative Senior Rail Modelling and Simulation Specialist to join our team. In this senior role, you will actively shape the future of complex transit networks by leveraging your expertise in modelling, simulation, and rail systems. You will collaborate with specialists across Canada and beyond to deliver transformative, data-driven solutions that ensure safe and efficient mobility.
Your Impact
- Lead end-to-end modelling and simulation assignments across rail operations, traction power, tunnel ventilation, pedestrian movement, and traffic scenarios, utilizing industry-standard tools.
- Apply advanced modelling methods to evaluate network performance, validate system requirements, and optimize service planning.
- Develop rail network and alignment concepts grounded in operational feasibility and system integration.
- Guide and mentor junior modellers, strengthening technical capability within the Rail Systems Engineering team.
- Drive continuous improvement by contributing to process design, automation tools, and visualization methods for simulation outputs.
- Support proposals, pursuits, and multi-project delivery while maintaining technical excellence and quality assurance.
- Build strong internal and external relationships to expand client trust and position WSP as a leader in modelling and simulation.
The Skills That Set You Apart
- An engineering degree is highly preferred, with 10+ years of experience in rail modelling, operational analysis, and systems engineering.
- Deep hands-on expertise using OpenTrack, RailSys, RTC, and/or equivalent rail simulation platforms, plus experience with OpenPowerNet for traction power studies.
- Strong understanding of rail operations, signaling principles, block design, and track layout fundamentals.
- Advanced data handling skills with the ability to manipulate large datasets and automate workflows using Python or VBA.
- Capability in timetable planning, service modeling, rolling stock and crew diagramming, and resource optimization.
- Experience across diverse rail contexts including LRT, metro, commuter rail, tram, and mixed-traffic environments.
- Familiarity with ETCS and CBTC technologies.
- Exposure to macroscopic modelling tools (e.g., Viriato, RailPlan, Attune) and complementary modelling platforms (MATLAB/Simulink, LabVIEW) is an asset.
