About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Azure Cosmos Data Architect to design, implement, and optimize globally distributed, highly available data solutions using Microsoft Azure and Azure Cosmos DB. This role will be responsible for defining data architecture strategy, leading data modeling efforts, and ensuring scalable, secure, and cost-effective cloud-native database solutions that support mission-critical applications.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and architect distributed NoSQL data solutions using Azure Cosmos DB.
  • Define partitioning strategies, indexing policies, and data modeling best practices.
  • Lead architecture decisions across multiple APIs (Core SQL, MongoDB, Cassandra, Gremlin, Table).
  • Develop multi-region, high-availability, and disaster recovery architectures.
  • Optimize performance, throughput (RU/s), latency, and cost management.
  • Establish governance, security, and compliance frameworks (RBAC, encryption, networking).
  • Collaborate with application architects, DevOps, and engineering teams to implement CI/CD pipelines.
  • Provide architectural guidance for integration with:
    • Azure Functions
    • Azure Data Factory
    • Azure Synapse Analytics
    • Event-driven architectures
  • Conduct architecture reviews, performance assessments, and solution audits.
  • Mentor engineers and promote cloud-native data design best practices.

Required Qualifications

  • 7+ years of experience in data architecture or database engineering.
  • 3+ years of hands-on experience with Azure Cosmos DB.
  • Strong expertise in distributed systems, NoSQL databases, and data modeling.
  • Experience designing globally distributed applications.
  • Deep understanding of:
    • Partition key design
    • Consistency models
    • Indexing strategies
    • Throughput provisioning (manual & autoscale)
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code (ARM, Bicep, Terraform).
  • Proficiency in one or more programming languages (C#, Python, Java, Node.js).
  • Strong knowledge of Azure networking and security best practices.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience migrating from relational databases to Cosmos DB.
  • Knowledge of event-driven and microservices architecture.
  • Experience with data streaming platforms (e.g., Kafka, Event Hubs).
  • Azure certifications (e.g., Azure Solutions Architect, Cosmos DB specialty).
  • Experience in high-scale enterprise or SaaS environments.
