About the role
Engineer in Training - Aviation
Woolpert is hiring an Engineer-in-Training to join our dynamic Aviation team at our Colorado office. This position reports to the Senior Engineer and is responsible for performing engineering functions specific to aviation/airfield design under the direction of a Professional Engineer.
What You Will Do
- Performs engineering computations, conducts evaluations, design analyses, and design development.
- Prepares reports, recommendations, and opinions for approval by a supervising Professional Engineer.
- Applies standard engineering practices and techniques to adjust and correlate data; recognizes and resolves discrepancies in results and follows operations through a series of related steps or processes.
- Works as a member of a project team in the development of data and/or applications.
- Uses Autodesk Civil 3D and AutoCAD to develop engineering and design documents.
- Participates in firm-wide quality initiatives.
- Builds 2D and 3D models from a variety of information sources following company standards.
- Designs or redesigns complex layouts and drawings from general written or verbal specifications.
- Communicates with the design team about concepts, data, and specific needs associated with the completion of design deliverables.
- Manages personal task assignments and adheres to the project scope of work, schedule, and budget on all assigned tasks.
- Performs basic calculations to analyze and design civil system components using Civil 3D.
- Assists with engineering duties on projects of various complexity.
- Assists with collecting data and gathering information to support design decisions.
- Performs a variety of tasks, which may include analyzing proposed project solutions to ensure structural reliability, resource efficiency, and cost effectiveness.
- Supports construction administration and observation efforts, including reviewing drawings and making changes based on field input from Construction Managers.
What You Will Bring
- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret basic technical documents.
- Ability to apply mathematical concepts.
- Ability to respond effectively to sensitive inquiries from clients, regulatory agencies, and/or members of the business community.
- Strong Microsoft Office suite skills.
- Familiarity with FAA Design Advisory Circulars a plus.
- Ability to layout airport features based on FAA Advisory Circulars.
- Ability to layout Pavement markings for runways and taxiways based on FAA Advisory Circulars.
