The Millwork Director of Operations leads the Millwork Group's project management and installation teams to deliver projects on time, within budget, and with high-quality standards.
Responsibilities
Leadership & Team Development:
- Lead, coach, and develop a team of Project Managers.
- Foster a high-performance culture and continuous improvement.
- Provide mentorship on scope management, scheduling, budgeting, and client communications.
- Conduct performance reviews and establish KPIs.
Strategic Project Oversight:
- Oversee the portfolio of active projects ensuring scope, budget, and schedule adherence.
- Monitor project financials and profitability while addressing risks.
- Ensure review of contract documents, scopes of work, and estimates.
- Enforce standard operating procedures for project management.
Operational Excellence:
- Lead weekly project review meetings with cross-functional teams.
- Track and report project milestones from hand-off to close-out.
- Promote clear communication across internal partners.
- Identify bottlenecks and coordinate solutions to reduce delays.
Client & Stakeholder Management:
- Serve as escalation point for client issues and schedule delays.
- Ensure professional management of client expectations.
- Oversee delivery of excellent customer service and problem-solving.
Quality & Compliance:
- Ensure projects meet AWI, QCP, FSC, and other standards.
- Champion Lean practices and maintain a culture of safety.
- Conduct post-project reviews to capture lessons learned.
Qualifications and Requirements
This role requires 10+ years in architectural millwork or construction project management with at least 3 years in a senior leadership role. Candidates need a proven track record in managing large project portfolios, deep knowledge of millwork fabrication and installation, and proficiency in project management tools such as PROCORE, eCMS, and Microsoft Project.
