About The Staff Data Analyst Role
The Staff Data Analyst will be an integral part of the Block Compliance Analytics team, focused on placing data at the core of the Compliance organization. This role requires a seasoned professional with extensive experience in Financial Crimes and Anti-Money Laundering (AML) domains. The successful candidate will develop and execute strategies to deliver impactful analytics that inform leadership decisions across the company. They will also be responsible for communicating the story of our Compliance program to regulators and external stakeholders, emphasizing the quantification of compliance risks and enhancing operational effectiveness. The role involves leading critical workstreams, translating regulatory expectations into actionable insights, and collaborating closely with legal, engineering, and product teams to shape compliance initiatives. By leveraging deep technical expertise and strategic vision, the Staff Data Analyst will help redefine how Block interacts with money, ensuring our compliance efforts support our long-term mission of financial inclusion and security.
Qualifications
- 8+ years of relevant experience with a Bachelor's degree; or 6+ years with a Master’s degree; or equivalent work experience
- 5+ years of Compliance and AML experience
- Expert proficiency in SQL and data analysis/visualization tools such as Tableau or Looker
- Advanced skills in ETL development and data pipeline management
- Proven ability to solve complex problems independently using technical expertise
- Strong project management skills with the ability to navigate fast-paced environments
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present data insights clearly
- Impeccable attention to detail and polished presentation skills
Responsibilities
- Lead the development and execution of data strategies for regulatory engagements, including ETL processes and source data validation
- Translate regulatory expectations and commitments into actionable insights, influencing compliance and product roadmaps
- Utilize raw data to educate internal teams and external partners on regulatory impacts, policy changes, and environmental factors affecting compliance
- Collaborate with legal, engineering, and product teams to inform the design of compliance systems and processes
- Establish yourself as a thought leader by connecting data insights to strategic actions through effective communication and cross-functional alignment
- Leverage expertise to educate, coach, and influence stakeholders across the organization, contributing to Block’s long-term success
- Manage multiple high-impact workstreams, demonstrating the ability to communicate complex concepts at various levels of abstraction
