About The Security Engineer Role

This role sits at the intersection of security and innovation within a large-scale enterprise environment. As a Security Engineer at WRITER, you will be instrumental in building and maintaining the security foundations that safeguard the AI systems powering some of the most prominent brands globally. Your work will involve integrating security into every phase of application development, from threat modeling and architecture design to implementing automated security controls. You will collaborate closely with engineering teams to embed security best practices into the development lifecycle, ensuring our platform remains both powerful and trustworthy. The role offers a unique opportunity to address complex security challenges specific to AI systems, including securing AI agents, protecting training data pipelines, and designing controls for novel AI architectures. Whether working remotely within the US or in a hybrid setup at our San Francisco or New York City offices, you will report to the Head of Security Engineering and play a vital role in shaping WRITER’s security posture.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2+ years of hands-on experience in application security engineering.
• Proven track record of securing large-scale production systems, preferably in fast-growing startups or high-growth environments.
• Strong understanding of developer workflows and experience in reducing security risk without compromising velocity.
• Technical proficiency in at least two programming languages such as Python, Java, Go, JavaScript, or TypeScript.
• Experience with security tools and methodologies, including SAST/DAST solutions, vulnerability management platforms, and DevSecOps practices.
• Excellent communication skills, capable of translating complex security concepts for both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Demonstrated ability to automate security processes and scale security solutions across teams.

Responsibilities

• Embed security into the DNA of WRITER’s AI platform by conducting threat modeling sessions and designing secure architectures for new features.
• Own and continuously improve the application security program, including implementing SAST/DAST in CI/CD pipelines, conducting security code reviews, and automating vulnerability detection.
• Partner with engineering teams to establish secure coding standards, create reusable security patterns, and promote security best practices across development teams.
• Design and recommend security features and products to protect customer environments and ensure data integrity.
• Leverage AI agents to enhance security team efficiency and proactively minimize risks during product development.
• Lead security assessments, penetration testing, and vulnerability remediation efforts across WRITER’s applications, APIs, and AI services.
• Develop and implement security controls for data pipelines, model training environments, and customer-facing AI agents.
• Stay informed on emerging threats related to AI and machine learning, particularly attack vectors targeting LLMs and generative AI, and develop strategies to defend against them.
