About The Role
The Kellogg Biological Station is seeking a Human Resources Coordinator to join its administrative team. This role is integral to maintaining efficient departmental operations by providing comprehensive human resources support to faculty, laboratory personnel, and other departmental units. The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing the full spectrum of HR functions, including recruitment, onboarding, employee development, and performance management. This position offers an opportunity to work in a dynamic, collaborative environment that values innovation and professional growth. Located at the W.K. Kellogg Biological Station, the role supports the station’s mission by ensuring HR policies and procedures are effectively implemented and adhered to. The position is initially for one year, with the possibility of renewal based on performance and funding, and offers a hybrid work schedule to promote work-life balance.
Qualifications
- A bachelor’s degree in human resources, social sciences, or a related field.
- Six months to one year of relevant work experience in human resources or departmental operations.
- Knowledge of HR functions, policies, and procedures.
- Experience with administrative tasks such as file management, timesheet reconciliation, and record keeping.
- Proficiency in Microsoft 365 applications and familiarity with HR software systems like SAP.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Willingness to stay current on HR policies through ongoing professional development.
Responsibilities
- Manage the recruitment process by submitting job postings, overseeing interviews, and completing hiring documentation for all departmental positions, including faculty, staff, and student roles.
- Coordinate new employee onboarding to ensure a smooth and welcoming transition for new hires.
- Prepare and reconcile departmental files and timesheets within SAP or relevant HR systems.
- Assist in identifying training opportunities and employee development activities to foster departmental growth.
- Maintain and update departmental job descriptions and related task documentation.
- Support supervisors in developing and maintaining performance management systems and documentation.
- Stay informed on MSU Human Resources policies and communicate updates to department personnel.
- Serve as a liaison between departmental staff and HR leadership, facilitating effective communication and resolution of HR matters.
- Participate in special projects, committees, and administrative activities as assigned.
- Continuously enhance HR knowledge through coursework, workshops, seminars, and independent reading.
