About The Role: Financial Crimes Risk Analyst

The Financial Crimes Risk Management (FCRM) Analyst plays a critical role in ensuring Origin Bank's compliance with applicable regulations such as the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA), USA PATRIOT Act, and Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC). This position involves monitoring, investigating, and reporting suspicious activities related to money laundering, terrorist financing, and other financial crimes. The analyst assesses customer risk profiles, performs enhanced due diligence (EDD) on high-risk accounts, and collaborates with various bank departments to mitigate potential risks. This role requires a detail-oriented professional with strong analytical skills, a comprehensive understanding of AML regulations, and the ability to investigate complex financial activities effectively.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university preferred
  • Minimum of three years of banking experience, including recent bank BSA compliance experience within the last 12 months
  • Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist (CAMS) and/or Certified AML and Fraud Professional (CAFP) certification preferred or willingness to obtain within one year
  • Proficiency in Internet, Outlook, Microsoft Word, and Excel
  • Ability to learn bank-specific software such as Verafin, IBS (Core), and Teller Insight
  • Strong knowledge of BSA, USA Patriot Act, OFAC regulations, and bank policies
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and investigative skills
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities

Responsibilities

  • Perform scheduled Enhanced Due Diligence (EDD) reviews of high-risk accounts, including MSBs, MRBs, NBFIs, PSPs, NRAs, POATMs, and cryptocurrency-related accounts
  • Analyze transactional account trends and customer documentation to assess risk and document conclusions
  • Make recommendations regarding account acceptance, mitigation, or closure based on risk assessments
  • Update and revise procedures for handling high-risk customers and suspicious activity reporting in collaboration with the Financial Crimes Risk Manager
  • Review reports in Verafin to identify unidentified NGOs, MRBs, or MSBs and add appropriate tags and comments
  • Evaluate transactional activity of POATMs and MSBs for unusual patterns or lack of activity
  • Stay current on federal and state-specific MSB and MRB requirements, especially for Louisiana, Mississippi, Texas, Alabama, and Florida
  • Communicate with bank personnel to gather additional documentation and resolve exceptions
  • Process alerts related to Privately-Owned ATMs and other suspicious activities in Verafin
  • Add comments and risk ratings to new Remote Deposit Capture (RDC) accounts
  • Review and investigate alerts related to red flags or new account scenarios, determining if further investigation is necessary
  • Utilize internal and external research tools to support AML investigations and documentation
  • Develop and maintain an understanding of industry patterns and behaviors indicative of suspicious activity
  • Support special projects and casework related to BSA/AML compliance as required
