About The Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Data Scientist II to join our Platform Data Science team at Coinbase. In this role, you will work at the intersection of product, engineering, and design to enhance core systems and user journeys that are critical to our platform’s success. Your primary focus will be on improving safety, reliability, and user experience across key areas such as Payments, Risk & Trust, Identity & Onboarding, Compliance, Customer Support, and Experimentation. You will leverage your expertise in data analysis, experimentation, and modeling to produce actionable insights that influence product development and strategic decision-making. This position offers an exciting opportunity to tackle high-impact, cross-functional challenges, including diagnosing funnel drop-offs, optimizing user onboarding processes, and designing metrics systems to track progress. Your work will directly contribute to making Coinbase more secure, reliable, and user-friendly, while also unlocking growth opportunities through data-driven initiatives.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in a quantitative field such as Mathematics, Statistics, Physics, Computer Science, or related disciplines.
• Minimum of 2+ years of relevant experience in data science or analytics roles.
• Proven experience driving impact for digital products within iterative development environments.
• Strong understanding of statistical concepts and practical application skills, including A/B testing, causal inference, and machine learning.
• Proficiency in SQL for data analysis and querying.
• Experience programming and modeling in Python or similar languages.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to convey complex insights clearly and effectively.
• Demonstration of core cultural values: clear communication, positive energy, continuous learning, and efficient execution.

Responsibilities

• Perform comprehensive analyses on product data to answer open-ended questions and provide strategic insights.
• Design, execute, and interpret experiments and analyses to measure impact and inform product improvements.
• Develop, maintain, and enhance key metrics and reports to support ongoing data-driven decision making.
• Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including product managers, engineers, and designers to identify opportunities for optimization.
• Build and refine data infrastructure to facilitate more effective analysis and reporting capabilities.
• Diagnose issues within critical user journeys such as onboarding, payments, and authentication, proposing solutions to improve reliability and user experience.
• Implement advanced modeling techniques and causal inference methods to evaluate product changes and their impact.
• Stay current with industry trends and best practices in data science to continuously improve analytical approaches.
