About The Role
The TD Insurance AI2 team is seeking a highly skilled Data Scientist I specializing in Underwriting Analytics to join our Montréal office. This role is integral to our mission of leveraging advanced analytical techniques, including machine learning and artificial intelligence, to enhance business intelligence and decision-making processes. The successful candidate will focus on developing, maintaining, and calibrating underwriting models and rules that support risk assessment and portfolio management for our general insurance automobile and residential products in the Canadian market. Collaborating closely with underwriting specialists, actuaries, and cross-functional teams, the Data Scientist I will utilize state-of-the-art predictive modeling techniques such as Generalized Linear Models (GLM) and Gradient Boosting Machines (GBM). The role offers an exciting opportunity to influence underwriting strategies, improve risk segmentation, and support the growth and profitability objectives of TD Insurance. The candidate will also be responsible for providing expertise on mathematical concepts, promoting the adoption of advanced analytics, and developing tools to monitor portfolio evolution.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Actuarial Science, Computer Science, or related field
- Minimum of 3 years of professional experience in an industry setting, preferably in insurance or financial services
- Proficiency in programming languages such as SAS, VBA, Python, R, or similar tools
- Strong understanding of modern machine learning techniques and their practical applications
- Excellent analytical and decision-making skills
- Effective organizational and time management abilities
- Ability to adapt to changing priorities and environments
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
- Experience working within the insurance industry is an asset
- Fluent in English; proficiency in French is an asset
Responsibilities
- Develop and refine predictive models using advanced techniques such as GLM and GBM to improve underwriting segmentation and rules for auto and residential insurance products
- Provide expert insights on mathematical and statistical concepts to support the broader analytics team and promote the adoption of innovative analytics solutions across the organization
- Stay current with emerging trends and developments in data science and analytics, continuously growing knowledge of business processes, tools, and techniques
- Leverage data-driven insights to enhance understanding of client risk profiles, profitability, and portfolio performance
- Execute comprehensive underwriting analyses to support strategic growth and profitability initiatives
- Design, develop, and maintain tools for monitoring portfolio evolution and risk assessment
- Collaborate with various departments including Underwriting, Pricing, Product Development, Risk Management, and Client Service to align analytics initiatives with organizational goals
- Present findings and recommendations clearly to stakeholders, facilitating informed decision-making
