About the Data Engineer II Role

The Data Engineer II at Wondr Health is a pivotal role responsible for designing, developing, and implementing scalable and efficient data solutions that support the company's analytical and operational needs. This position requires a proactive individual with strong technical expertise in data engineering, analytics, and software development. The successful candidate will work closely with cross-functional teams, including product, engineering, and business stakeholders, to understand their data requirements and translate them into robust technical architectures. Leading the development of complex data pipelines, troubleshooting data issues, and ensuring high-quality data delivery are core aspects of this role. The Data Engineer II will also mentor junior team members through code reviews and best practices, contributing to the overall data infrastructure and supporting the company's mission to deliver innovative health solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, development, and deployment of complex data pipelines and ELT processes to meet business objectives.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather requirements, define data architectures, and enable data-driven decision-making.
  • Develop scalable data solutions leveraging warehouse, data lake, and serverless architectures.
  • Analyze new data sets and generate insights to support business needs.
  • Provide technical support and troubleshoot data-related issues promptly and effectively.
  • Conduct code reviews and pair programming to ensure high-quality, maintainable code.
  • Implement data security and compliance standards in all data engineering activities.
  • Stay informed of emerging data technologies and incorporate best practices into projects.
  • Document data processes, architectures, and workflows for transparency and future reference.
  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to the continuous improvement of data engineering practices.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, analytics, information systems, or a related field (preferred).
  • 2–5 years of experience as a Data Engineer.
  • Proficiency in SQL and NoSQL databases.
  • Experience with data pipeline and workflow management tools.
  • Hands-on experience with AWS cloud services.
  • Knowledge of object-oriented and functional scripting languages.
  • Experience with Amazon Redshift, Infrastructure as Code (IaC), and DB2 is desirable.
  • Familiarity with message queuing, stream processing, and big data storage solutions.
  • Ability to implement ETL processes, including using SSIS.
  • Working knowledge of analytical software such as Power BI, Python, SAS, JMP.
  • Strong understanding of relational database theory and practice.
  • Basic programming, troubleshooting, and data integration skills.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration abilities.
  • Knowledge of HIPAA regulations, privacy policies, and compliance standards.
