About The Role: Data Analyst

We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Data Analyst to join our data science team. In this role, you will work closely with sensor and instrumentation engineers, reporting directly to the data science technical lead. Your primary responsibility will be to analyze sensor data, extract meaningful insights, and develop visualizations that support strategic decision-making. The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical skills, experience in data processing, and the ability to communicate complex findings effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. You will play a crucial role in enhancing SailPlan’s data infrastructure, refining dashboards, and ensuring data integrity across various platforms. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to innovative projects within a fast-growing company committed to sustainability and technological advancement in the maritime industry.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Data Analytics, Computer Science, Statistics, or a related field
  • Proficiency in SQL for querying and managing large datasets in BigQuery
  • Strong Python skills for data analysis and manipulation (e.g., pandas, NumPy, matplotlib, seaborn)
  • Experience creating dashboards and visualizations using Looker, Tableau, Power BI, or similar tools
  • Strong analytical skills with meticulous attention to detail
  • Excellent communication skills for stakeholder engagement and presentation

Responsibilities

  • Pull, clean, and analyze data from BigQuery and other sources using Python
  • Identify patterns, trends, and actionable insights from sensor and relevant datasets
  • Utilize existing ELT pipelines to create data transformations for dashboards
  • Collaborate with sensor/instrumentation engineers to understand data collection mechanisms
  • Align analyses with business and technical objectives in partnership with the data science tech lead
  • Gather requirements from the product team for dashboard development
  • Design and develop intuitive dashboards and visualizations using tools like Looker
  • Translate business needs into scalable and maintainable analysis solutions
  • Present findings clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Ensure data integrity, accuracy, and completeness throughout all analysis stages
  • Document workflows, methodologies, and processes for team-wide knowledge sharing
