As a Bakery Team Member at Whole Foods Market, you will be an integral part of the Bakery team, providing essential support in various capacities. This includes receiving and preparing products, maintaining the cleanliness and appeal of the Bakery area and displays, and actively selling products in line with Whole Foods Market's high standards. You will handle all functions related to breaking down deliveries and efficiently stocking shelves.
All retail positions at Whole Foods Market emphasize creating a positive company image through courteous, friendly, and efficient service to both customers and fellow Team Members. You will be expected to perform duties in accordance with team and store Standard Operating Procedures, and be prepared to assist in other Team Member roles as needed. Team Leaders, and by extension all Team Members, are encouraged to engage with customers and contribute wherever support is required. This role also involves upholding Whole Foods Market's core values, promoting various programs, and ensuring strict adherence to health and safety regulations.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure a fresh and appealing display by keeping cases and shelves clean, well-stocked, front-faced, and properly rotated, while also removing out-of-date products.
- Stock and clean shelves, bins, and display areas regularly.
- Monitor and prevent spoilage, accurately communicating any waste to buyers, Team Leaders, and shift supervisors.
- Maintain back stock areas in an organized and efficient manner.
- Assist with sampling programs, ensuring sample areas are always full, clean, and inviting.
- Support periodic inventory checks to ensure accuracy.
- Arrive at the workstation on time, appropriately groomed, dressed, and ready to work; fulfill all scheduled shifts and attend required trainings and meetings.
- Provide excellent customer service, addressing customer needs promptly and effectively, and modeling suggestive selling techniques; answer phones and pages courteously.
- Maximize sales potential through effective and proper procedures for prepping, storing, rotating, stocking, and merchandising products.
- Comply with all established procedures, including Weights and Measures, health and sanitation, and safe work practices.
- Maintain a clean and sanitary working and shopping environment, and ensure equipment is kept in accordance with WFM cleanliness and safety standards.
- Perform assigned opening, mid, and closing duties, ensuring accuracy of signs and pricing.
- Immediately report any safety hazards or violations.
- Execute other duties as assigned by store, regional, or national leadership.
Required Skills and Abilities
- Ability to proactively engage in selling products to customers.
- Capability to learn basic knowledge of all products carried within the department.
- Skill in visually examining products for quality and freshness, proactively reading labels, and familiarizing oneself with various products.
- Strong to excellent communication skills and a willingness to collaborate as part of a team.

Experience
No prior retail experience is required for this role, making it an excellent opportunity for those looking to start their career in a dynamic retail environment.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
- In an 8-hour workday, expect to be standing/walking for 6-8 hours.
- Require hand use including single grasping, fine manipulation, pushing, and pulling.
- Work involves motions such as bending, twisting, squatting, and reaching.
- Exposure to FDA approved cleaning chemicals is expected.
- Will experience various temperatures, including freezing (<32°F), refrigeration (32-40°F), and warm (>90°F).
- Ability to work in both wet and dry conditions.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
- Ability to safely use tools and equipment, including knives, box cutters, electric pallet jacks, and other heavy machinery.
