What's the role?
As a Fraud Analyst at Westpac Group, you will apply your mathematical and creative problem-solving skills to detect suspicious behavior in Westpac customer data. These insights will be used to prevent financial loss to customers.
In this role, you will be responsible for designing, testing, and deploying rules and statistical models to detect fraud and scam activity as it happens, and constantly adapt to new trends as they emerge.
This is a unique role where you get to play an important part in Westpac's fraud strategy as a bank, through solving a range of challenging and interesting problems with clear customer impact.
What do I need?
This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who is at the beginning of their career, rolling off a graduate program or finishing up university. You will bring your background and education in a technical area as well as your strong mathematics and problem-solving skills to the role. In turn, Westpac will help you learn and grow in this unique role!
- Recent or soon to complete Tertiary Qualification in relevant disciplines such as Mathematics, Statistics, Actuarial Studies, Computer Science or Econometrics is preferred.
- Have some technical knowledge in SQL, Python, R, SAS or other programming languages used to interrogate and manipulate large data sets and fit statistical models.
- Good communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Experience or keen interest in games such as strategy board games or chess is advantageous as these display similar thought processes to fraud detection.
- Ability to think creatively to solve problems.
