Job Description

User Experience Designer at Westland Insurance Group Ltd.

Westland Insurance Group Ltd. is actively seeking a talented and strategic User Experience Designer to join our Business Technology Enablement Office team. This full-time opportunity is based at our head office in Surrey, BC, for individuals passionate about creating seamless, user-centered digital experiences.

Discover What’s Possible, With Westland.  The Westland story is all about growth, offering significant possibilities for every team member. We are committed to building a great business by caring for communities, clients, and our employees with equal dedication. Join us as we continue to expand and innovate.

About the Role

As a User Experience Designer, you will be a strategic partner responsible for delivering intuitive and efficient digital experiences for Westland's employees and brokers. Your work will span the entire design process, from initial research findings and low-fidelity sketches to polished, pixel-perfect visuals ready for development. You will design and optimize digital workflows, champion the corporate design system, and collaborate across various business units to ensure technology solutions align with business objectives and enhance user satisfaction.

You will blend human-centered design principles, thorough research, and data-driven insights to refine how clients interact with Westland brands across multiple digital touchpoints. This involves uncovering friction points, interpreting behavioral signals, identifying experience gaps, and translating these insights into user flows, wireframes, prototypes, and elegant high-fidelity designs. Your cross-functional collaboration will be key to delivering prioritized items, elevating digital experiences, and ensuring our omnichannel ecosystem continuously meets client expectations and business priorities.

What You'll Do

  • Intake and Prioritization: Manage requests for new digital experiences and improvements, engaging stakeholders to understand business needs, pain points, and strategic goals. Frame design opportunities with clear scope, impact, and strategic alignment to support prioritization and accountability.
  • User Research & Insights: Conduct user interviews, surveys, and usability testing to understand user needs, pain points, and behaviors. Facilitate workshops and design sprints to gather insights and co-create solutions.
  • Experience Design: Design wireframes, prototypes, and user flows for new and existing digital products, ensuring solutions are accessible, visually appealing, and aligned with business objectives.
  • Design System Ownership: Maintain, evolve, and advocate for the corporate design system in Figma, ensuring consistency in visual language, interaction patterns, and accessibility standards across all digital products. Educate and support teams in adopting and applying the design system.
  • Collaboration & Solutioning: Work closely with business stakeholders, IT, marketing, and insurance teams to translate requirements into effective user experiences. Collaborate with BTEO experience analysts and product owners to leverage feedback and data. Build strong, collaborative relationships with internal teams and vendors to ensure experience standards, research findings, and design decisions are consistently understood and applied.
  • Execution & Implementation: Partner with development teams to ensure design intent is realized in final products. Participate in project planning, provide design specifications, and support testing and training.
  • Continuous Improvement: Monitor user metrics and usage analytics post-launch. Gather feedback, iterate on designs, and recommend enhancements to improve adoption and satisfaction.
  • Lead Change: Champion user-centered design principles and best practices. Lead efforts to integrate UX into everyday work, fostering a culture of innovation and empathy.

What We're Looking For

  • High-level proficiency in design tools (e.g., Figma, Sketch, Adobe XD) is required.
  • Demonstrated experience in maintaining and evolving a corporate design system.
  • Strong portfolio showcasing digital product design in a corporate or enterprise environment.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
  • Hands-on experience with journey design, research methods, wireframing, and flow creation using modern design and analytics tools.
  • Effective communication and collaboration abilities, with the capacity to work independently and in multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Experience with business enablement, technology integration, or digital transformation projects.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
  • Familiarity with accessibility standards, AI, machine learning, and project management methodologies.
  • Familiarity with Agile, Service Design, and Design Thinking practices.
  • Self-aware and objective, able to separate personal preferences from user needs and data-driven decision-making.
  • A certificate or degree in UX Design, Human-Computer Interaction, Graphic Design, Information Technology, or related fields. Industry certifications are an asset.
