Overview of the Crew Scheduler Role at WestJet
WestJet is actively seeking dedicated Crew Schedulers to join their dynamic team. This role demands a high standard of excellence, a passion for challenges, and a results-driven approach. The ideal candidate will be highly motivated and thrive in an agile environment, ensuring crew requirements are met in a timely and effective manner for 'day of' operations, all while adhering to strict aviation regulations and maintaining strong communication with all stakeholders. This is a critical 24/7, 365-day per year position involving shift work.
Key Deliverables and Responsibilities
- Promptly answer phone calls, demonstrating empathy and active listening with crew members to ensure high internal guest satisfaction.
- Ensure all schedule amendments strictly follow Canadian Aviation Regulations (CARS), Commercial Air Service Standards (CASS), the Company Operations Manual (COM), and the Flight Attendant Manual (FAM).
- Proactively monitor and mitigate potential crew duty and rest violations to maintain compliance and safety.
- Implement Irregular Operations (IROP) contingency plans and execute required pairing modifications efficiently.
- Adhere to Flight Operations policies and Inflight Department policies as outlined in the COM, FAM, and Crew Services Guidelines.
- Coordinate, confirm, and track appropriate deadheading arrangements for crews.
- Perform other assigned duties as necessary to support operational continuity.
Experience and Qualifications
- A minimum of 1 year of airline experience, with a preference for a background in an operational role.
- Previous experience with flight crew schedules and Canadian Aviation Regulations (CARS) is a significant asset.
- Intermediate proficiency with SabreSonic, MS Word, Outlook, and Excel is preferred.
- Demonstrated strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build respect and credibility through actions.
- High degree of motivation and commitment to work independently in a fast-paced, dynamic, and ever-changing environment.
- Ability to work effectively with minimal supervision and take ownership of routine tasks.
- Proven attention to detail, strong organizational, time management, and problem-solving skills.
- Capability to multitask efficiently in a time-sensitive, fast-paced environment.
