General Job Function
We are seeking a dynamic and forward-thinking Technology Scout to join our innovation team in EMEA. In this role, you will be at the forefront of identifying, evaluating, recommending, and leading maturation of emerging technologies and trends in nuclear energy. You will bridge the gap between cutting-edge advancements and practical business applications by leading the search and negotiations process for new technology partnership/expansion in defined technology areas, enabling Westinghouse to continue and strengthen its role as an Innovator in the broad energy sector.
Duties And Responsibilities
- Contribute to building and delivering the holistic technology vision of Westinghouse, ranging from incremental innovation in support of near-term business unit objectives, as well as preparing the future by seeking game-changers and breakthroughs.
- Strategic alignment: Provide input and direction to the Strategic Roadmap group on selected technology development areas to align technology scouting needs with corporate strategy and goals.
- Market Intelligence: Provide insights into competitors' technological advancements and market trends.
- Trend Analysis: Monitor global innovation ecosystems, industry conferences, and publications to assess potential opportunities and threats.
- Technology Identification: Research and identify emerging technologies, startups, academic research, and industry trends that align with Westinghouse's strategic objectives.
- Technology Evaluation: Conduct feasibility assessments, proof of concept (POC) analysis, and due diligence on new technologies applicable to the broad energy sector.
- Partnership Development: Build and maintain relationships with startups, research institutions, universities, and technology accelerators.
- Collaboration: Work with internal R&D, engineering, and business units to identify customer pain points and technology gaps, while assessing the applicability of technologies being developed in Westinghouse ("technology bricks") to address these pain points/gaps, and eventually recommending consideration for new technology bricks to develop.
- External funding: Identify external funding opportunities, whether government grants or private, that could be pursued to mature identified technologies from low to medium technology and business readiness levels.
- Catalyze and materialize the efforts internally throughout the organization, and externally with partners, to capture opportunities in a timely manner.
- Align proposed funded project content with policy makers priorities and expectations to increase the funding capacity of Westinghouse for innovation.
- Advocate R&D and innovation dynamics of Westinghouse to influence government stakeholders.
- Work with government affairs and government programs teams to articulate identified technology bricks.
- Reporting: Present findings and actionable recommendations, in the forms of memos, business opportunity papers, make-vs-buy or investment decisions, to stakeholders and executive leadership.

Education And Qualifications / Skills And Competencies
- Master or Doctorate degree in an energy or nuclear-related field (e.g., nuclear engineering, mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, physics, etc.).
- 5+ years of post-education experience in technology scouting, product development, innovation management, or a related role in the energy, aeronautics, space or any relevant high-end / heavy industry sector.
- Strong knowledge of emerging technologies and applications to the nuclear sector.
- Excellent analytical and communication skills with the ability to present complex ideas to diverse audiences.
- Demonstrated ability to build networks within the innovation ecosystem.
- Curiosity: A passion for exploring new ideas and technologies.
- Strategic Thinking: Ability to align technology scouting with long-term business goals.
