Overview
West Virginia University is seeking an Educational / Faculty Development professional from one of the STEM disciplines to join the WVU Teaching and Learning Center. This role is designed for a leader in scholarly teaching who works closely with faculty, instructors, and graduate teaching assistants. The position is a 12-month Faculty Equivalent / Academic Professional appointment with an in-load teaching of 3 credit hours per year, based in Morgantown, WV.
About the Opportunity
The successful candidate will plan and facilitate programming including workshops, faculty learning communities, signature programs, and orientations. The role involves one-on-one consultations, support for peer review of teaching, and assistance in the development and dissemination of Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) and Discipline-Based Educational Research (DBER) projects.
Responsibilities
- Teach 3 credit hours per year.
- Develop seminars, workshops, and signature programs for faculty and instructors.
- Maintain an active research agenda in SoTL/DBER.
- Collaborate with colleagues across WVU campuses and sometimes with other units.
- Host large events, including the annual teaching conference and orientations.
- Provide both internal and external service in educational development.
Benefits & Additional Information
The salary is budgeted at $75,000 with generous benefits including a 37.5-hour work week, 13 paid holidays, annual leave, sick days, comprehensive health insurance, and retirement savings plans. Additional funds may be provided for professional association dues and conference registration.
Minimum Qualifications
- Ph.D. or equivalent with teaching experience in a STEM discipline.
- Four years of university-level teaching experience with at least two years as instructor of record.
- Demonstrated emerging research agenda within SoTL/DBER and effective teaching practices.
- Experience facilitating workshops, one-on-one consultations, or communities of inquiry.
Interview Process
Finalists will be required to give a 45-minute research talk and a 60-minute teaching demonstration. These sessions will showcase the candidate's work in SoTL/DBER and active, participant-focused educational development programming.
