Software Engineer at Wells Fargo

The Software Engineer at Wells Fargo is an individual contributor role focused on implementing, testing, and maintaining software solutions under the guidance of senior, lead, and principal engineers, with scope and autonomy clearly positioned two levels below Lead Software Engineer. The role emphasizes reliable execution of well-defined features, defect resolution, and adherence to established architectural, security, risk, and quality standards within an agile team. Software Engineers collaborate closely with peers and product owners, participate in sprint ceremonies and code reviews, write maintainable and well-tested code using approved modern technologies, and continuously develop their technical skills while escalating complex design or architectural decisions as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Implement, test, and maintain software solutions that meet functional and non-functional requirements.
  • Contribute to the delivery of well-scoped features and user stories within an agile environment.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve defects and production support issues.
  • Write clean, maintainable, and well-tested code using approved technologies and frameworks.
  • Participate in sprint ceremonies, backlog refinement, and team collaboration activities.
  • Engage in peer code reviews and follow established coding standards and patterns.
  • Adhere to architecture, security, risk, and compliance guidelines.
  • Build foundational understanding of system design and cloud-native application patterns.
  • Collaborate with senior, lead, and principal engineers; escalate complex technical decisions or risks appropriately.
  • Continuously develop technical skills and stay current with modern engineering practices.

Qualifications

  • Applicants must be authorized to work for ANY employer in the U.S. This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship.
  • Demonstrated professional experience in software engineering with a proven ability to deliver high-quality code and contribute effectively within a development team.
  • Hands-on experience with one or more of the following: Java, Spring Boot, JavaScript / TypeScript, React, or Node.js.
  • Experience with RESTful APIs and microservices.
  • Experience using Git-based source control and contributing in a collaborative codebase.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and modern build/deployment tooling.
  • Foundational understanding of cloud-native or containerized applications (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes, cloud platforms).
  • Exposure to automated testing practices (unit, integration, or functional testing).
