Position Overview

The Research Technician I at Weill Cornell Medicine assists scientists with laboratory and investigative procedures with supervision. The role involves performing various assays, imaging experiments, molecular biology techniques, and maintaining detailed records. It may also include working with animal models and human subjects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and maintain detailed records, logs, and summary reports.
  • Conduct tissue & cell culture activities and routine molecular biology procedures such as PCR, cloning, and electrophoresis.
  • Perform biochemistry assays including western blotting and RT-PCR and microscopic imaging analyses.
  • Manage receipt, storage, cataloguing, and shipment of samples.
  • Ensure safe laboratory practices and proper handling/disposal of chemicals and hazardous materials.
  • Analyze data using computer software and report results to principal investigators.
  • Provide technical support and training to faculty, staff, and new employees.
  • Assist with experimental planning, research protocols, and literature searches.
  • Maintain inventory and assist with supply orders, cost control, and equipment repairs.

Education & Experience

Bachelor's Degree required with some bench lab related experience. Minimum two-year commitment is expected due to the substantial training effort.

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

Applicants must demonstrate strong organizational skills, keen attention to detail, and the ability to plan and adapt to rapidly changing priorities.

Working Conditions

This position is based in standard laboratory conditions on the Upper East Side. It may involve working with radioactive and biologic materials, require flexible hours, and working in Biologic Safety Level 1, 2, or 3 facilities. Physical demands include long periods of standing or sitting.
