The Growth Product Data Science Team

Our Growth Product Data Science team is composed of data scientists from diverse educational backgrounds. We are at the forefront of data science initiatives that span the global client experience, collaborating with Consolidation, Product Marketing, Lifecycle Marketing, and Product Engagement. Our work involves delivering quantitative insights, driving personalization, and developing predictive models that directly influence Wealthsimple's growth strategy.

We operate as a full-stack data science team, managing the entire lifecycle from data modeling and dashboard creation to predictive model development, experiment design and analysis, and ad-hoc analysis for opportunity identification. Our role is consultative, focused on solving complex problems, surfacing new opportunities, and owning targeting strategies. We measure our success by the direct dollar value we deliver, the ideas we champion that lead to prioritization, and the superior performance of our shipped model-based solutions.

Your Impact on Consolidation Product

This Sr Data Scientist, Growth Product role will primarily partner with our Consolidation product team. This team is dedicated to crafting an exceptional first 30-day experience for new clients, encouraging them to establish Wealthsimple as their primary financial partner. The scope of this team's work includes client onboarding, product-led consolidation initiatives, enhancing the Home experience, optimizing Tiers, and facilitating account discovery. Given its touchpoints across numerous critical client surfaces, this position offers a unique opportunity to achieve significant impact across these vital areas.

What You Will Do

• Be the dedicated data science partner to the Consolidation product team, leading analytics and modeling for product-led growth across onboarding, activation, and full consolidation.
• Design and analyze robust product experiments, including A/B testing and causal inference methods, to measure the impact of product changes on key growth metrics.
• Collaborate with Personalization DRIs to integrate machine learning models, such as next-best-account recommendations and personalized value propositions, into high-impact product flows.
• Develop comprehensive product analytics to understand client journeys through the consolidation funnel, identifying opportunities to accelerate progression from external account linking to adopting multiple products.
• Create and maintain essential data models and dashboards to monitor consolidation KPIs, focusing on data quality, accessibility, and operational efficiency.
• Work cross-functionally with Product, Engineering, Growth, and Lifecycle Marketing to translate analytical findings into product decisions and features.
• Proactively identify and size growth opportunities by deeply analyzing data, then partner with stakeholders to prioritize and execute these initiatives.
• Build automation tools and pipelines to enhance team efficiency and scalability.
• Contribute actively to the team's culture of learning and knowledge sharing, fostering a collaborative environment.
• Take ownership of projects and ship iteratively, always prioritizing simplicity and effectiveness.

Skills and Experience You Bring

• 5+ years of experience in data science, decision science, or a similar quantitative role, with significant experience as the primary data scientist for a product domain or function.
• Strong product analytics capabilities, including expertise in user funnels, activation metrics, and translating product usage data into actionable growth insights.
• Exceptional stakeholder management and communication skills, adept at partnering with product managers and presenting complex findings to senior leadership.
• A high degree of curiosity and ownership, demonstrated by a willingness to deep dive into product strategies, business context, and data to proactively uncover insights amidst ambiguity.
• Deep expertise in experimental design and causal inference methods (A/B testing, non-inferiority tests, factorial designs, power analysis), which is central to this role.
• Robust technical proficiency in SQL and Python, complemented by hands-on experience with data pipeline tools like dbt and Airflow.
• Solid understanding of data visualization and analytics engineering principles.
• A results-driven mindset, prioritizing simplicity to achieve product goals effectively.
• Proven ability to build and maintain cross-functional relationships across various business teams.
• Prior experience in growth, go-to-market, or product-led growth data science is a significant advantage.
• Experience in fintech or financial services is a plus.
• Experience mentoring or coaching junior data scientists is also a plus.
