The Role
This is a full-time, 10-week internship during Summer 2026 for an undergraduate or graduate student interested in cybersecurity. As a Lumen Intern Security Specialist Summer 2026, you will work with the Global Security organization and gain hands-on experience in protecting large companies, governments, and homes from advanced threats while receiving mentorship from senior architects and engineers.
- Execute test procedures and create technical documentation.
- Automate provisioning, troubleshooting, and testing of security platforms.
- Assist in security product integration and testing of SD-WAN/firewall products.
- Collaborate with software development and analytics teams using automation platforms like Ansible playbooks.
- Engage in research, technology evaluation, and solution development for managed security.
Candidate Requirements
Candidates must be enrolled at a 4-year accredited college or university, with expected graduation between August 2026 and May 2028. Preferred fields include Cyber Security, Computer Science, or related fields. Key competencies include experience with security testing, data science, analytics, scripting (Python, Kafka, Hadoop, Linux, Unix, RedHat), and strong communication and project management skills.
Compensation & Program Details
The internship offers hourly pay ranging from $31 to $46, with compensation based on education, geography, and qualifications. The program requires full-time commitment (40 hours/week) from May 29 to August 7, 2026, and is fully remote within the continental US.
Application Process
Once you submit your application, you will be invited to take part in a virtual assessment followed by video interviews. The timeline includes first-round interviews in October, panel interviews in November, and final offer extensions by December.
