Role Overview

The Associate Director of Engineering, Cloud Platforms Compute leads a team of 20+ platform engineers across multiple teams. You will drive GCP adoption, manage compute infrastructure, and oversee cloud lifecycle and service integration platforms that power Wayfair's global e-commerce operations.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead a team of 20+ platform engineers and engineering managers.
  • Drive GCP adoption and cloud platform strategy across the organization.
  • Architect and implement large-scale infrastructure migrations and modernization initiatives.
  • Own compute platform evolution using Google Kubernetes Engine and cloud-native technologies.
  • Oversee cloud service provisioning, lifecycle management, and service integration on GCP.
  • Partner with internal teams to deliver self-service cloud capabilities.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to develop and enhance rapid application development platforms.
  • Build robust infrastructure lifecycle management using Terraform.
  • Promote a culture of operational excellence, automation, and continuous improvement.

What You’ll Need

  • 10+ years in platform engineering/SRE roles with languages like Python and Golang.
  • Experience managing engineering managers and large teams.
  • Proven experience in large-scale enterprise infrastructure migrations.
  • Deep expertise with Google Cloud Platform and cloud architecture.
  • Advanced experience with Google Kubernetes Engine and multi-cluster management.
  • Proficiency with Terraform and Infrastructure as Code practices.
  • Experience with CI/CD tools such as Argo, Buildkite, Jenkins, and Spinnaker.
  • Familiarity with platform observability tools like Prometheus, Grafana, and Datadog.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or equivalent.
  • Experience implementing cloud native features and developer self-service platforms.

Nice to Haves

  • Experience with Istio/Service Mesh technologies.
  • Familiarity with advanced deployment patterns such as Canary and Blue/Green.
  • Experience with Kubernetes Admission Control and workload scaling strategies.
  • Background in high-growth technology companies.
