Senior Communications Officer at Waverley Council
Waverley Council is seeking an experienced Senior Communications Officer to provide strategic communications leadership and support across the organisation. This permanent full-time role offers a competitive salary, agile working arrangements, and a focus on community well-being.
About the Role
Reporting to the Manager, Communications and Engagement, this position is responsible for:
- Providing expert advice on all communications matters to Council teams and senior management.
- Leading, supporting, and mentoring the Communications Officer and other team members.
- Developing, reviewing, and implementing communications strategies that advance Council objectives.
- Overseeing the creation, maintenance, and enhancement of Council’s website and social media presence.
- Reviewing high-quality content for internal and external communications, including media releases, speeches, newsletters, and social media posts.
- Managing key communications projects and campaigns, ensuring timely delivery and alignment with Council goals.
- Monitoring communications effectiveness and recommending improvements.
Salary, Perks and Wellbeing
- Salary: $108,010.63 - $124,212.21 plus 12% Superannuation
- Employment Type: Permanent full-time
- Agile Working: Work 3 days a week in the office.

Skills & Experience
- Tertiary qualifications in communication, public relations, journalism, marketing, or a relevant field, or commensurate industry experience.
- A minimum of five years' communications experience.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build and maintain relationships with all levels of management, elected officials, and community members.
- Demonstrated experience in supervising, coaching, and supporting staff for continuous improvement.
- Ability to work under pressure, meet tight deadlines, and manage competing priorities.
- High attention to detail.
- Contemporary industry knowledge and experience in building content for digital channels.
