About the role
Assistant Superintendent - Operations
W.E. O'Neil Construction is seeking an Assistant Superintendent to join our Operations department. This is a full-time position based in Pleasanton, CA. The primary function of the Assistant Project Superintendent is to assist the Senior Project Superintendent, Project Superintendent or other assigned supervisor(s) in all matters related to field activities for a specific project. An Assistant Project Superintendent may be assigned overall responsibility for a smaller project where appropriate.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Skills
- Capable of leading a project with a budget range of $1M - $10M across various delivery methods, market sectors, and complexities without supervision.
- Assist Senior Project Superintendent, Project Superintendent, or other assigned supervisors in managing project field activities.
- Manage a specific segment or area of a large project as part of a larger project team.
- Assist in the preparation and maintenance of project schedules.
- Assist in the development, maintenance, and enforcement of project site safety programs.
- Coordinate and manage material procurement and deliveries.
- Implement all SWPPP measures and documentation.
- Maintain complete and accurate working documents pertaining to the project.
- Coordinate all field inspections and testing.
- Possess knowledge of all project-related documents and understand subcontracts and exhibits, enforcing contractual obligations in the field.
Management Skills
- Provide pertinent field information affecting Monthly Reconciliation Reports and forecasts.
- Assist in developing, implementing, and enforcing project-specific quality control measures.
- Assist in preparing and maintaining eight-week look-ahead schedules.
- Coordinate daily subcontractor activities.
- Provide input to the Project Manager on field activities with cost impacts and document change order/back charge work.
- Document actions related to claims or legal actions.
- Oversee WEO-employed or third-party laborer responsibilities.
- Manage onsite activities under the direction of Project Superintendent staff or Project Manager.
- Attend and document weekly Foreman meetings and actively participate in relevant work meetings.
- Lead On-Site Safety Meetings, including weekly Site Safety Surveys.
- Understand and enforce WEO and Cal-OSHA safety standards.
- Collect man counts and daily reports, writing concise descriptions of work performed.
- Create and manage completion and punch lists for timely completion.

- 3-5 years minimum of relevant project field experience (e.g., Field Engineer).
- Proficiency in basic computer skills (MS Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Basic familiarity with Microsoft Project or P6 Scheduling Software and Project Management Software (Prolog, Viewpoint, CMiC).
- General knowledge and experience with daily software tools (Bluebeam, Plan Grid, Safety Mojo, BIM 360 Glue).
- Completion of OSHA 30-Hour Safety Course.
- First Aid and CPR certified.
- Understanding of construction administration processes (documents, schedules, RFIs, Submittals, procurement).
