Job Description

Visa Inc. is at the forefront of the GenAI revolution, aiming to be the world's leading data-driven payments company. As the Director, Data Engineering, you will have a hands-on leadership role overseeing teams in Data Engineering, Data Science, and GenAI/ML while managing Visa's Loyalty and Marketing platforms. You will work within the Value Added Services – Digital Marketing & Engagement organization and collaborate on large, complex projects in Customer Engagement, Loyalty, and Marketing.

Responsibilities

Leadership & Management:

• Hire, retain, and develop diverse high-performing teams.
• Invest in employee career development through mentoring and training.
• Lead with a client-focused mindset across organizations.
• Motivate teams of engineers, data scientists, and architects to achieve business goals.

Technical Leadership:

• Provide technical guidance to architects, engineers, and data scientists.
• Drive architecture for cross-team and cross-product development projects.
• Establish best practices in software development and data science.

Collaboration & Strategy:

• Collaborate with product, operations, cybersecurity, and support teams.
• Coordinate qualitative and quantitative decision-making for strategic projects.
• Work with global teams to define and communicate a clear vision.

Development & Innovation:

• Deliver products with complex interdependencies by collaborating across geographies.
• Develop secure, scalable, modular, API-centric architectures.
• Optimize the use of Visa’s Platforms & Solutions with new technologies like Gen AI/ML.

Engineering & Data Science Excellence:

• Drive down technical debt and manage budgets.
• Establish and apply best practices in client application development and data science.
• Handle coordination, coaching, recruiting, and performance management.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience in continuous delivery, DevOps, and infrastructure automation.
• Strong background in Java/J2EE, Microservices, Hadoop, Spark, and AI/ML frameworks.
• Expertise with tools such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, Spring, Spring Boot, and cloud deployments.
• Excellent communication, facilitation, and leadership skills.
• Payment industry experience is a plus.

This is a hybrid position – days in office to be confirmed by the hiring manager.

Qualifications

Basic: 10+ years of relevant work experience and a Bachelor’s degree, OR 13+ years without degree.

Preferred: Advanced degrees or significant experience in managing enterprise-level teams in software and data science.
