About the role
Global Document Specialist
Vinson & Elkins is seeking a Global Document Specialist responsible for producing a wide variety of documents, including complex transactional and litigation documents, using various software applications. This role demands strong legal word processing and administrative skills, excellent time management, and the ability to thrive under strict deadlines.
Duties and Responsibilities
Primary
- Creates, converts, formats, and revises a wide range of documents such as transactional and litigation documents, Edgar filings, correspondence, presentations, charts, graphs, timelines, and Excel spreadsheets using Firm software.
- Transcribes audio files, generates comparisons, creates electronic trial notebooks, electronic closing sets, and PDF portfolios.
- Marks and generates Table of Authorities; performs defined term and cross-reference checks; and handles other word processing tasks.
- Adheres strictly to instructions and established Firm and departmental procedures.
- Proofreads all completed work for accuracy.
- Maintains the confidentiality and security of sensitive information.

Minimum Qualifications
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
- Experience: Three years of legal word processing experience in a law firm or legal environment.
- Special Knowledge: Strong legal word processing skills, including the ability to diagnose, troubleshoot, and correct problem documents.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Word (document automation, formatting, editing), PowerPoint, Excel, Visio, and Outlook. Familiarity with document management system (DMS) software, comparison software, and PDF conversion/editing tools.
- Attributes: Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy. Strong organizational and time management skills. Ability to work efficiently under pressure and meet tight deadlines. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Proficient problem-solving abilities. Ability to maintain confidentiality. Qualifications
- Must achieve a typing speed of 55 WPM with a 2% or less error rate on the firm’s legal typing test.
- Must score 76% or higher on the firm’s legal spelling test.
- Must successfully complete a Word skills assessment.
Working Conditions
- This position may be performed remotely within commuting distance to a V&E office for occasional visits.
- Subject to time pressures and constraints, often dependent on input from others.
- Required schedule: Monday through Friday, 9:00 am CT to 5:30 pm CT.
- Overtime, including extra hours and holiday work, may be required periodically.
Compensation
The full-time base annual salary for this position in the New York and Washington D.C. markets is expected to range between $76,774.15 - $132,313.33. Actual compensation may vary based on geographic location, work experience, education, and skill level. This range is specific to New York and Washington D.C. postings and may be subject to future modification.
