About the Legal Assistant Role at Victoria Legal Aid

In this ongoing full-time position, the Legal Assistant will provide essential administrative support across Criminal, Family, and Civil Law matters within Victoria Legal Aid's Sunshine office. A significant portion of your duties will involve in-person clerking at Sunshine Magistrates Court and Wyndham Law Courts, alongside reception tasks and general office support. You will also play a crucial role in assisting clients by answering questions, providing information about legal services, and connecting them with appropriate support, ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of the office. Reliability in commuting to and working from both Sunshine and Wyndham court locations is a firm requirement.

About You

We are seeking an individual with strong organizational skills and the capability to effectively manage multiple tasks and deadlines. Excellent communication skills coupled with a client-focused approach are essential, as is the ability to work empathetically with individuals from diverse backgrounds, including vulnerable or disadvantaged clients. Attention to detail and a quick learning ability for new systems are key. Proficiency in IT skills, including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel), is required. While not mandatory, previous experience in administrative and/or reception support, ideally within a legal environment, is highly desirable. The ability to reliably commute to and work from both Sunshine and Wyndham court locations is also a prerequisite.
