Job Summary
The Third-Party AI Integration Engineer is responsible for designing and operationalizing secure telemetry and control flows from edge gateways to external AI/LLM services. The role emphasizes modular data integration, standardization of edge telemetry and bidirectional API development to influence device behavior in real time.
Key Responsibilities
- Design Modular Edge-to-AI Pipelines: Build real-time telemetry pipelines aligning with API governance standards.
- Normalize and Preprocess at the Edge: Transform raw telemetry into standardized formats using schema-driven contracts.
- Develop Bidirectional APIs for AI Interaction: Create RESTful or MQTT APIs for consuming AI responses to trigger control actions.
- Ensure Governance Alignment and Flow Integration: Collaborate with firmware, backend, and cloud teams to meet security and data standards.
- Documentation and Developer Portal Readiness: Author API specs and integration documentation for developer use.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer/Software Engineering or a related field. Minimum 5 years experience integrating IoT edge telemetry with cloud platforms or AI services. Demonstrated skills in schema-driven API flows and modular data exchange patterns.
Technical Competencies
- Proficiency with REST and MQTT protocols, TLS, mTLS, and OAuth2.
- Experience integrating third-party LLMs or AI APIs (e.g., OpenAI, Google Gemini, Azure OpenAI).
- Strong coding skills in Python, Java, or Go for embedded-edge or gateway environments.
Preferred Skills
Familiarity with API gateways (e.g., Kong), JSON Schema validation, and schema-first API design methodologies. Knowledge of industrial telemetry protocols (OPC-UA, Modbus) and edge runtimes (Azure IoT Edge, EdgeX) along with OpenAPI/Swagger-based documentation.
Work Environment & Collaboration
This role is part of a cross-functional team operating at the convergence of firmware, AI/ML, and cloud architecture. Collaboration spans device, gateway, and platform layers under the API Matters charter.
