Overview
Venable LLP is seeking a mid-level Payments & Fintech Associate with 3-5 years of experience to join its nationally-recognized Payments & Fintech group. The role is based in Washington, DC or New York and involves advising on cutting-edge legal issues at the intersection of technology, finance, and regulatory policy.
Key Responsibilities
- Drafting and Negotiation: Negotiate and draft complex commercial agreements including payment processing agreements, technology service arrangements, platform partnerships, and licensing deals.
- Regulatory Compliance: Advise on U.S. federal and state regulatory regimes including BSA, AML, MTL, and consumer protection regulations.
- Payments Models & Risk Analysis: Counsel on structuring innovative payments models and risk management in higher risk industries.
- Investigations & Enforcement: Support responses to law enforcement investigations, subpoenas, and regulatory examinations.
- Due Diligence: Conduct regulatory diligence for mergers, acquisitions, and investments in fintech and payments sectors.
- Strategic Counseling: Advise on legal implications of launching novel fintech products and services.
- Thought Leadership & Business Development: Contribute to client alerts, white papers, articles, panel discussions, and conferences.
Qualifications
A J.D. from an accredited law school with admission to a state bar (NY or DC preferred) and 3-5 years of law firm experience focused on fintech, payments, or financial services. Candidates must demonstrate strong drafting, negotiation, and regulatory due diligence skills along with a proactive, collaborative approach.

Salary & Contact
