What We Look For In an AP French Language and Culture Tutor

• Advanced Subject Mastery: Deep knowledge of French grammar, vocabulary, and cultural practices across the Francophone world, including listening comprehension, reading interpretation, interpersonal and presentational speaking, and persuasive essay writing. Ability to explain advanced grammatical structures including subjunctive mood, conditional tenses, and relative pronouns while preparing students for the AP French Language and Culture examination.
• Conceptual Teaching & Problem-Solving: Skilled at teaching thematic content across families, science, beauty, contemporary life, global challenges, and personal identity in French. Guides students through interpreting authentic French audio and print sources, constructing cultural comparison presentations, engaging in simulated conversations, and writing persuasive essays synthesizing sources. Emphasizes developing communicative proficiency in all four language modalities.
• Curriculum Awareness & Adaptive Instruction: Familiar with AP French Language and Culture curriculum and common challenges such as understanding rapid native speech, mastering subjunctive usage, and integrating cultural knowledge into presentational tasks. Adapts instruction using authentic French media, interpersonal communication practice, and AP-style task rehearsal to support students at the intermediate-high to advanced proficiency levels targeting the AP examination.
• Effective Teaching Methods: Ability to identify concepts students commonly struggle with, explain material using multiple approaches, and adapt instruction to meet individual learning needs and styles.
• Strong communication skills and a friendly, engaging teaching style.
• Ability to adapt to different learning styles and student needs.
