What We Look For In an AP Computer Science A Tutor

Advanced Subject Mastery

Deep knowledge of Java programming including primitive types, objects, boolean expressions, iteration, arrays, ArrayLists, two-dimensional arrays, inheritance, and recursion. Ability to explain object-oriented programming principles, algorithm efficiency, and common data structures while preparing students for the AP Computer Science A examination including multiple-choice and free-response questions.

Familiar with AP Computer Science A curriculum across ten units and common challenges such as understanding polymorphism, implementing recursive solutions, and writing correct code in free-response format without an IDE. Adapts instruction using code tracing exercises, pair programming activities, and AP-style practice to support students from introductory programming through exam-level Java proficiency.
