As a Data Engineering Technical Lead at Vanguard, you will provide expert-level data solutions by leveraging software to process, store, and serve data effectively. This role involves rigorously testing data quality and optimizing data availability, ensuring all data pipelines are built to be scalable, repeatable, and secure. You will utilize deep analytical skills on diverse internal and external data sets and play a crucial role in leading, instructing, and mentoring newer Data Engineering crew members.

Core Responsibilities

• Writes ETL (Extract / Transform / Load) processes, designs robust database systems, and develops tools for both real-time and offline analytic processing.
• Troubleshoots software and processes to maintain data consistency and integrity across systems.
• Integrates complex, large-scale data from various sources to enable business partners to generate insights and make informed decisions.
• Translates intricate business specifications into clear design specifications and executable code.
• Responsible for writing complex programs, ad hoc queries, and comprehensive reports.
• Ensures all code is well-structured, thoroughly documented, and optimized for maintainability and reusability.
• Partners closely with internal clients to gain expert understanding of business functions and informational needs.
• Works collaboratively with other technical and data analytics experts across Vanguard to implement cutting-edge data solutions.
• Leads all phases of solution development, from conception to deployment.
• Clearly explains technical considerations in meetings, including those with internal clients and less experienced team members.
• Assesses data quality rigorously and tests code thoroughly to ensure accuracy and intended purpose.
• Provides essential data analysis guidance and serves as a primary technical consultant for clients.
• Educates and develops junior data engineers within the team, applying quality control to their work.
• Develops firm-wide data engineering standards and contributes expertise to other data expert teams across Vanguard.
• Tests and implements new software releases through comprehensive regression testing.
• Identifies issues and engages with vendors to resolve them, facilitating the elevation of software into production.
• Participates in special projects and performs other assigned duties to support organizational goals.

Qualifications

• Demonstrable experience in data analytics, programming, database administration, or data management.
• Undergraduate degree or an equivalent combination of training and experience is required. A graduate degree is preferred.
