The Opportunity

At Valtech, you’ll find an environment designed for continuous learning, meaningful impact, and professional growth. Whether you're pioneering new digital solutions, challenging conventional thinking, or building the next generation of customer experiences, your work will help transform industries.

We are proud of:

  • The work we do and the innovation we drive
  • Our values of share, care and dare
  • A workplace culture that fosters creativity, diversity, and autonomy
  • Our borderless, global framework, which enables seamless collaboration

The Role: Data Scientist

We are seeking a Data Scientist with a strong quantitative background and analytical discipline. While you'll have demonstrated coding ability, your programming language skills should be driven by intellectual curiosity and analytical voice. We are particularly seeking candidates with hands-on expertise in Google Cloud Platform (GCP) to support our growing cloud-based data and AI initiatives. Valtech will provide a platform and training to help you reach your full potential.

If you are innovative, passionate about data and AI technologies, bring experience with GCP, and are someone who continually learns and enjoys sharing expertise, we encourage you to apply!

Please note, we are only accepting applicants from the provinces of Ontario, Vancouver, and Québec for this role. For Québec-based positions, proficiency in English is required, as the role involves regular communication with clients and colleagues located outside of Québec.

Role Responsibilities

  • Contribute to production readiness through monitoring, incident response support, and operational runbooks to meet agreed service levels.
  • Conduct root-cause analyses of known production issues leading to adverse model outputs.
  • Select and implement appropriate machine learning models for time-series forecasting and supply-chain optimization applications.
  • Contribute well-tested code to existing, object-oriented Python codebases.
  • Analyze raw data sets to create meaningful impact for large enterprise clients while maintaining scientific rigor.
  • Engineer data pipelines and products to help stakeholders make data-driven decisions.
  • Communicate analytical findings in an intuitive and visually compelling way.
  • Create highly visual and interactive dashboards via Tableau, PowerBI, or custom web applications.
  • Conduct deep dive analysis and design KPIs to help guide business decisions and measure success.
  • Engineer data infrastructure, software libraries, and APIs supporting BI and ML data pipelines.
  • Architect cloud data platform components enabling the above.
  • Build and track project timelines, dependencies, and risks.
  • Gather stakeholder requirements and conduct technical due diligence toward designing pragmatic data-driven business solutions.

Must-Have Qualifications

  • Hands-on experience with GCP services in production marketing analytics, including BigQuery, Vertex AI, Looker, Pub/Sub, Cloud Functions, Cloud Storage, and Cloud Run or equivalent deployment/runtime patterns.
  • Proven industry experience developing predictive or inferential statistical models OR a Masters/PhD degree in quantitative studies (Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, or computation-intensive Sciences and Humanities).
  • Experience with statistical and machine learning libraries and their appropriate application to business problems.
  • Proficiency (data ingestion to insight) in programmatic languages such as SQL, Python, and R.
  • Experience defining and reporting model acceptance metrics (precision/recall, false-positive rate, MAPE), with documented backtesting.
  • Experience delivering production model artifacts (model cards, model registry updates, confidence intervals/bands, and guardrail-aware recommendations).
  • More than 4 years of experience working in similar roles.
  • Advanced English skills.

Nice-To-Have Qualifications

  • Experience contributing to packaged software libraries in open-source or industry repositories.
  • Proficiency in visualization/reporting tools such as Tableau and PowerBI or programmatic visualization libraries (R ggplot2, Python matplotlib/seaborn/bokeh, Javascript D3).
  • Proficiency in Looker and SQL-first analytical storytelling; ability to produce decision-ready visuals and narratives.
  • Proficiency scripting in a UNIX environment.
  • Proficiency in big data environments and tools such as Spark, Hive, Impala, Pig, etc.
  • Proficiency with cloud architecture components (AWS, Azure, Google).
  • Proficiency with GCP architecture components relevant to secure analytics products (IAM/service accounts, RBAC-aware data access, deployment, and observability patterns).
  • Proficiency with data pipeline software such as Airflow, Luigi, or Prefect.
  • Ability to turn raw data and ambiguous business questions into distilled findings and recommendations for action.
  • Proficiency in front and back-end web application development stacks and frameworks (Javascript, HTML, CSS, React/Vue/AngularJS) including API design (REST/GraphQL) and library development.
  • Experience leading and managing technical data/analytics/machine learning projects.

If you do not meet all the listed qualifications or have gaps in your experience, we still encourage you to apply. Valtech values diverse perspectives and a willingness to learn.
