Job Overview
The Operating Engineer I – Boiler Operator performs engineering duties at Valley Medical Center, executing critical responsibilities in boiler operation and facility maintenance.
Role & Responsibilities
This role involves working in the Facilities Engineering Department under the Manager of Plant Engineering. The responsibilities include:
- Operating all boiler systems at Valley Medical Center
- Performing periodic equipment inspections and maintenance
- Diagnosing malfunctions and initiating repairs
- Planning work with sketches and specifications
- Troubleshooting utility systems including HVAC, Domestic Water, Steam, Electrical and electronic systems
- Maintaining essential systems integrity
- Executing repairs on electrical circuits, electronic systems, plumbing fixtures, HVAC and refrigeration units
- Participating in drills and emergencies
Prerequisites & Qualifications
Candidates should have:
- A high school diploma or equivalent
- A valid Washington State driver's license
- Five years of experience in Steam Plant Operations or Maintenance
- A valid Grade 4 Steam License (Grade 3 preferred or obtainable within 180 days)
- Experience with Building Automation Systems (BAS) and complex utility systems
- A team oriented attitude and problem-solving skills
Physical & Environmental Demands
The position requires the ability to lift up to 75 pounds, work in varying weather conditions, and perform physically demanding tasks including standing, stooping, kneeling and bending.
