Job Overview

The Operating Engineer I – Boiler Operator performs engineering duties at Valley Medical Center, executing critical responsibilities in boiler operation and facility maintenance.

Role & Responsibilities

This role involves working in the Facilities Engineering Department under the Manager of Plant Engineering. The responsibilities include:

  • Operating all boiler systems at Valley Medical Center
  • Performing periodic equipment inspections and maintenance
  • Diagnosing malfunctions and initiating repairs
  • Planning work with sketches and specifications
  • Troubleshooting utility systems including HVAC, Domestic Water, Steam, Electrical and electronic systems
  • Maintaining essential systems integrity
  • Executing repairs on electrical circuits, electronic systems, plumbing fixtures, HVAC and refrigeration units
  • Participating in drills and emergencies

Prerequisites & Qualifications

Candidates should have:

  • A high school diploma or equivalent
  • A valid Washington State driver's license
  • Five years of experience in Steam Plant Operations or Maintenance
  • A valid Grade 4 Steam License (Grade 3 preferred or obtainable within 180 days)
  • Experience with Building Automation Systems (BAS) and complex utility systems
  • A team oriented attitude and problem-solving skills

Physical & Environmental Demands

The position requires the ability to lift up to 75 pounds, work in varying weather conditions, and perform physically demanding tasks including standing, stooping, kneeling and bending.
