About the Role
As a Research Assistant II, you will play a crucial role in supporting senior researchers with various laboratory activities. This includes conducting general experiments, managing the animal colony, assisting with data analysis, and contributing to presentations. You will also be responsible for essential lab maintenance, such as autoclaving, washing glassware, tracking inventory, and ensuring the lab remains clean and organized.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform laboratory experiments and activities to support research objectives.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation, including notebooks, records, and databases.
- Prepare graphic representations of data results as needed.
- Ensure a safe and efficient work environment by maintaining clean laboratory equipment and work areas.
- Monitor laboratory supplies and manage inventory to ensure availability for research projects.
- Stay updated on new and updated procedures and protocols, and complete required training.
- Coordinate the work of laboratory technicians, support staff, and assistants for efficient and high-quality results.
- Answer questions and resolve problems related to routine or complex duties.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Position Funding and Contingency
This position is funded by grants, with grant funding comprising 50% or more of the total funding. Continued employment is contingent upon the availability of funding. Employment may end upon the cancellation or discontinuation of the project, program, or funding.

Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree required, or equivalent years of experience beyond the minimum experience requirement.
- One year of related experience in a research or clinical lab environment, or equivalent years of education beyond the minimum education requirement.
Physical Requirements
Exerts up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds frequently and/or a negligible amount constantly to move objects.
Security Sensitive Position
This position is security-sensitive and requires adherence to Texas Education Code and Texas Government Code. Maintaining the security and integrity of critical infrastructure is a minimum qualification. Personnel will be routinely reviewed for factors that could impact security.
Residency Requirement
Employees must permanently reside and work in the State of Texas.
