Registered Nurse - Pre-Surgery Testing
UT Southwestern Medical Center is seeking a dedicated Registered Nurse to join our Pre-Admission Testing (PAT) / Pre-Surgery Testing (PST) team. We offer competitive shifts and a supportive work environment.
Available Shifts:
- 07:30 am - 6:00 pm, rotating day off.
- 11:00 am - 7:30 pm, Monday - Friday.

Job Summary:
This Registered Nurse position provides nursing services in the care and treatment of patients under the general supervision of a physician, mid-level provider, and/or nursing supervisor.
Job Duties:
- Perform and document comprehensive physical, psychosocial, and emotional assessments, considering age-specific criteria.
- Anticipate patient and family needs to develop and implement appropriate plans of care, utilizing critical thinking and prioritizing skills.
- Identify and implement nursing interventions, completing accurate and timely documentation.
- Act as a coordinator of the interdisciplinary plan of care, collaborating effectively with the healthcare team.
- Prioritize nursing interventions, promptly identify changes in patient condition, and take appropriate follow-up actions.
- Involve patients and families in the plan of care, providing clear communication and education.
- Evaluate implemented interventions and modify care as needed, documenting all changes.
- Adhere to hospital policies, procedures, and national standards of nursing practice.
- Provide appropriate and timely education to patients and families, assessing their understanding and documenting all teaching.
- Welcome and orient patients and families to the unit, encouraging participation in care.
- Advocate for resources and support to enhance patient safety and unit initiatives.
- Participate in performance improvement activities and quality/safety initiatives.
- Share professional knowledge with colleagues and students, acting as a resource.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
- Graduate of an approved/accredited nursing program.
- Proficient in English (read, write, communicate).
- 1 year of RN experience (specialty areas may require more).
- Current Texas (or BNE Compact State) RN license.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from AHA or ARC.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
- Previous RN experience in Pre-Surgery Testing, Pre-Admissions Testing, or a Med/Surg unit.
- Professional Certification in a Nursing Organization.
